Cintonia, also known as Chaenomeles japonica, Japanese quince or flower quince. It blooms from late winter to early spring, giving a very rich and impressive flowering before the leaves appear. It has thorns on the branches and in summer it produces fruits like small quinces. The most common variety of cintonia is the one that gives red flowers, but there are equally impressive varieties with pink, white or orange flowers.
